Happy New Year – 2003

I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I updated anything here. I suppose I should start with Happy New Year. It’s been a good year so far, so I guess I’ll just explain what’s new.

I haven’t worked on the desk in a while. We plan on doing more work in a couple of weeks, and we’ll soon be done with construction. Then we start staining and finishing in the spring (for certain reasons). The desk should be done and here by Easter, I hope.

I’m still taking guitar lessons. It’s going well right now. I’m not looking to get any new equipment right now, but I’m also keeping my eyes open for anything that may be worthwhile. I recently got into repairing my Vester. It’s all set up and working well now. Yet I still play the Strat more than anything. I haven’t been working on much other than trying to get better at some tunes, but I’ve got some ideas fresh in my head. The recording software works great for my purpose.

I spent Christmas and New Year’s in Milwaukee. My parents did a really nice job of decorating the house. It was their first Christmas in their new house. They really like it, and I think they really deserve such a great place. It needs a little updating, but it’s nothing serious. Garry is also doing well. He’s become a lot more responsible, yet he’s still a kid. I almost forgot, today’s his birthday.

My sister’s family is also doing really well. I can’t get over how much the girls are growing up. Isabel has been in preschool since fall and talks about so many things. She’s really curious. Madeline is still as active as ever, and she’s got those two-year-old curiosities, which drives everyone nuts sometimes. But they’re still as cute as ever.

I just found out at work this past week that I’ve been given another assignment. In addition to monitoring budget and policy for State Patrol, I’m now also responsible for the Division of Business Management (DBM). DBM is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Department, including fleet, buildings, information technology, financial services, communication and printing services, purchasing, and human resources. I’m really excited, because it gives me an opportunity to learn so much more about such things.

I’m still working at Bed Bath and Beyond as well. For a part-time job that I thought I’d leave by last spring, I’m surprised that I’m still there. I still enjoy working with others and helping people, and it keeps me busy.

Okay, I’ve spent enough time writing (especially for an update). Expect new soapbox articles soon. Also, I’ve fixed some things here, such as the e-mail link at the bottom of each page.
